Why Use a REALTOR®?
Buying and selling real estate is a complex matter. At first it might seem that by checking local real estate books or online sites you could quickly find a home at the right price. But a basic rule in real estate is that all properties are unique. No two properties — even two seemingly identical models on the same street — are exactly alike. Homes differ and so do contract terms, financing options, inspection requirements, and closing costs. (GAR)
In this maze of forms, financing, inspections, marketing, pricing and negotiating, it makes sense to work with professionals who know the community and much more. Those professionals are the local REALTORS® who serve your area. (GAR)
The first thing to consider when searching for someone to help you in the home buying or selling process is the licensing, certifications, and qualifications an agent has. Most importantly, you should make sure that the agent you are working with is a licensed agent with the Georgia Real Estate Commission.
Furthermore, you will want to look for someone who is a REALTOR®, rather than simply being a real estate agent. Agents who are designated as REALTORS® are part of the trademarked National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). As a result, they have to adhere to a strict code of ethics during every transaction. NAR's Code of Ethics opposes any discrimination in housing that includes race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, and national origin. REALTORS® are required to undergo frequent training concerning the code of ethics, as well as they are required to keep a certain amount of hours in other training and personal development classes each year. You can find a local REALTOR® who is a member of the West Georgia Board by going to our Find a REALTOR® directory.
When choosing the right REALTOR® for you, a good place to start is by asking for recommendations from your neighbors, lenders or attorneys. After getting a few recommendations, many buyers and sellers interview the agents to find the right match for them. Some things to consider when interviewing a REALTOR® are their experience, certifications, as well as their knowledge of the area. Tell them about your needs, timeline, budget, and anything else that can help them to help you in the process. Remember, REALTORS® are on your side and are here to advocate for you!
